How were Android users supposed to know about this? I had been using the app for years quite happily. Both Overcast and Castro have buttery smooth audio at all playback speeds.Īlso, apparently didn't notice the conversations around this stuff when the iOS version hit a few months ago There's a slightly audible."matrix" to the sound? Like I can hear the split of where it's speeding up each little block of sound? It's hard to describe. And of the 3 major iOS clients - Overcast, Castro, and Pocket Casts - PC has the worst-sounding sped up audio. There's a big difference in what's probably just a fraction of a second of silence. The silence trimming seems just a tad aggressive to me and can make people sound like there are no pauses in their speech instead of shortening the pauses. Their voice boost is fairly good the compressor does a good job of leveling out the volume in particular, but voices can become a little harsh. I know I'd really like to see the support come to iOS, and I think that we'll, one day, see it come back in a format that they can actually properly support in a multi-platform environment.Īt this point, though, I'd really like to see them work on improving the audio quality. Reading the explanation from the developers made sense if it was an old, hacked-on feature that was unsupported that you only had on one of your 3 platforms (Android, not iOS or Web), it's probably not going to make the initial cut. I have to think that it will come one day as it was a feature in the Android version and all their main competitors on iOS support sideloading audio files now too. Just to address one thing /u/DrewbieWanKenobie mentioned, the iOS version never had custom episode support. The whole notion of podcast triage is much better in V7. unplayed in case I want to listen to an old one I skipped. I know that I, personally, really like that they moved to the Played/Archived paradigm as I don't listen to every podcast and now, depending on if I have some extra time, it's easy for me to head back into the archive and differentiate played vs. The only major loss, as far as I can see, is playlists, which the new Filters options will be "good enough" for most users. A few lingering bugs remain, but they're making good progress towards fixing them. The new version is quite good and continues to get better as they add in small QoL adjustments. It doesn't mean their issues are invalid, but it's a very small percentage of the Pocket Casts user base that are really upset with the update (also, apparently didn't notice the conversations around this stuff when the iOS version hit a few months ago?).
